There is only one
standard dose of alfuzosin hydrochloride, regardless of your age or
weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your alfuzosin dose
unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Some considerations for people taking alfuzosin include the
following:
Alfuzosin comes in the form of an
extended-release tablet. It is usually taken by mouth once a day
immediately after a meal.
Do not take alfuzosin on an empty
stomach, as it is best absorbed just after a meal.
Swallow the tablets whole. Do no
break, cut, or chew them, as this would release too much of the
medication too quickly.
For the medication to work properly,
it must be taken as prescribed. Alfuzosin will not work if you stop
taking it.
If you are unsure about anything
related to your dosage or alfuzosin dosing in general, please talk
with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
overdose of alfuzosin?
Seek emergency medical
attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Symptoms of an alfuzosin overdose may
include weakness, dizziness, a fast but weak pulse, cold or clammy
skin, and feeling light-headed or fainting.
What happens if I miss a dose of Alfuzosin ?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If
it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take
the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra
medicine to make up the missed dose.
Alfuzosin helps to relax the muscles in the prostate
and the opening of the bladder. This helps to improve urine flow and
decrease symptoms of BPH. Alfuzosin does not slow or stop the
progression of enlarged prostate.
The usual recommended dose is one
10 mg tablet daily, after a meal. The tablet should swallowed whole,
not chewed or crushed. It should be taken after the same meal each
day.
