CONSUMER INFORMATION
LevoCetirizine CAS NO. 130018-77-8

USES: This medication is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, rash, and itching.

This medication works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily in the evening or as directed by your doctor.

If you are using the liquid form of this medication, measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.

Dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than directed. Children aged 6 to 11 years should not take more than two-and-a-half milligrams in a 24-hour period.

SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, tiredness, and dry mouth may occur. Fever or cough may also occur, especially in children. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the tongue/lips/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

PRECAUTIONS: Before taking levocetirizine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to cetirizine; or if you have any other allergies.

This medication should not be used if you have a certain medical condition. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: very severe kidney disease (e.g., dialysis).

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease.

This drug may make you drowsy or tired. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Limit alcoholic beverages.

Kidney function declines as you grow older. This medication is removed by the kidneys. Therefore, older adults may be at greater risk for side effects while using this drug.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
