INTERACTION
Naratriptan CAS number 121679-13-8

Do not take other "triptan" migraine drugs (e.g., sumatriptan, zolmitriptan) or ergot-type drugs (e.g., dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, methysergide) within 24 hours of taking this medicine. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all nonprescription and prescription products you may use, especially of: nefazodone, "serotonin-type" medications (e.g., SSRI antidepressants such as fluoxetine, fluvoxamine), venlafaxine, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, selegiline, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, moclobemide), sibutramine, tramadol, sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric drugs, sleep medicine, anti-seizure drugs, anti-anxiety drugs, certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). Check all labels (e.g., cough/cold products) for drugs causing drowsiness such as antihistamines. Consult your pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

This drug should not be taken with the following medication because very serious interactions may occur: sibutramine.

If you are currently using the medication listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting naratriptan.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: certain types of antidepressants (e.g., SSRIs such as fluoxetine/paroxetine/sertraline, NSRIs such as venlafaxine).

If you also take any ergotamine medication (e.g., dihydroergotamine or methysergide) or any other "triptan" drugs (e.g., zolmitriptan, rizatriptan), you will need to separate your naratriptan dose from your dose of these other medications in order to lessen the chance of serious side effects. Ask you doctor how long you should wait between your doses of these drugs.

Also report the use of drugs which might increase seizure risk (decrease seizure threshold) when combined with naratriptan such as isoniazid (INH), phenothiazines (e.g., thioridazine), theophylline, or tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), among others. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.
