DOSAGE
Cefixime
Cefixime comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth. It is usually
taken once a day or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 5-14 days. Gonorrhea
may be treated in 1-10 days.
Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your
doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take
cefixime exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more
often than prescribed by your doctor.
Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.
The tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water.
This medication may be taken without regard to meals. Antibiotics work best
when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do
this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day
and night.
Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is
finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the
medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a
relapse of the infection. Certain infections can be treated with a single
one-time dose. Follow directions carefully.
